Compress an image to an exact size

In short: Compress a photo to 20, 50, 100 KB or 1 MB in your browser.

Forms often give you a number, not a quality setting: 20 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB. Set the target here and get a file that fits under it.

Pick a file to start.

The compressed preview appears here.

Most compressors ask you to choose a quality percentage, then leave you guessing whether the result passes the upload limit. This page works the other way round: it searches for the best quality and resolution that stay under your target, then shows the final pixels and file size before you download. Transparency is flattened onto white for JPG, images larger than 4000 px on the long side are first scaled down to keep the search fast, and everything runs in the browser.

How to use it

Step 1. Drop a photo
Step 2. Pick the target size (or type the KB limit from the form)
Step 3. Check the final dimensions and size, then download

Questions

How does it hit an exact KB target?

It tries the highest quality that fits under the limit, then lowers the resolution if quality alone is not enough. The result card shows the final pixels, quality level and file size before you download.

Why is the photo smaller in pixels?

A 20 KB limit usually cannot be met at full resolution. Shrinking the pixels is the honest way to stay under the cap; the preview shows what you are getting.

Is the image uploaded?

No. Compression runs on a canvas in your browser; no request carries the photo anywhere.

Can I choose a custom limit?

Yes — pick Custom and type the KB limit your form allows. Very small limits may reduce the image to a small thumbnail, which is the trade-off for the size cap.
