Why is the PNG bigger than the WebP?

PNG is lossless, so it stores more data. That is expected; use JPG if you need a smaller file.

Is transparency preserved?

Yes. PNG supports an alpha channel, so transparent areas stay transparent.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no server limit because nothing is uploaded — very large images are limited only by your device memory.
